Aquaponics
Aquaponics is a method to grow pants and fish together in one system with out soil as a growing media.
there are several methods in which all of them the water circulates in the system carrying the fish waste, that then turns from toxic ammonia to healthy nitrates for the plants after a natural bacterial process. In this productive eco-system you can pretty much grow anything, from herbs to trees, and most verities can grow together in the same system thanks to the full spectrum of nutrients coming from the fish.
Recently we ordered fresh water shrimps to try in the system at Ekbicyeic. hopefully to see these ones grow and reproduce.

EkBicYeIc (paylas) is a unique ecological center in the very heart of the overcrowded Istanbul.
Its concept is built with three main concepts; production, organic restaurant and sharing what we already know and what we learn through R&D.
In the seeding and harvest department we are growing over 2,000 green leafy herbals and lettuce in 11 Hydroponics indoor systems in various methods in side the center on the walls. There is also a garden in the patio where there is two types of compost, small quail coop, soil based raised beds garden, a sitting area and an aquaponic system.
10m2 Wild Life Biological Pond
.fterThis wild life pond was created to be one of the energy centers in the 'afula project, and to attract local wild life such as frogs, birds and insects. The banks are made from bricks that were going to the trash and they have shallow and deep shores for birds and animals to have an easy access to the water, in that way also creating circulation in the water through thermal difference, later adding a big rock(bolder) on a tier, that will be half inside and half outside the water, receiving the heat from the sun, and releasing it to the water around it, even at night. Water plants for cleaning, and oxidizing the water,
a few gold fish for the mozzy eggs and a couple of Koy fish eating alga with a constant spill in from the water cooler standing next to it (in that funny looking small dome) And an over flow going to the ‘natural’ wadi with more plants drinking on the way. The birds are taking showers in it every day and the frogs every night

Gray water are the future. there is no way we can continue to manage our water the way we do. Water is life and the most precious purest resource we have on this planet. it can heal, but it can also cause disaster, death, war, and greed when not managed properly.
These are some gray and black water systems I have built, some very simple organic and biological solutions, to either reuse water as a renewable resource, or even just to bring them back to the ground in a non toxic condition.

Did you know that every single drop of rain water, belong to the ground? And if we create a place for the water to seep and percolate calmly in to the earth aquifer, they can then spring out back pure and alive into springs, streams, rivers, lakes and Finally the sea.
In a "dry" place like Alentejo, Portugal, the vision of a 1000 lakes was first a fantasy, then absurd, then irresponsible and in the end, with 7 lakes in 7 years, a beautiful realty..
In august 2012 i took a course in the 'tamera' community just about that, learning how to listen to the land and get the vision from the land it self... all you have to do is listen.
